Ahoy!

This week marks the beginning of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra’s fundraising campaign, NOTES! The NOTES campaign is the only fundraiser that the EYSO holds annually, and it helps keep tuition affordable for all members. I hope that you, or someone you know, would be willing to donate to our cause--every little bit counts!

With support from generous donors, EYSO has been going strong for 45 years and has been able to expand its reach to 70 communities in and around Elgin. There are currently eight ensembles, and a sizable chamber music program, all dedicated to enriching the lives of every student that’s involved. Yearly donations are what keeps this program afloat, as tuition only covers about 30% of annual costs.

This is my third year playing violin in EYSO, though it has been unlike any other year in many respects. We are still able to hold weekly, in-person rehearsals, which I am extremely thankful for. However, playing in a pandemic has posed its own unique challenges as well. And yet, despite the social distancing, masks, and ventilation breaks, playing in an ensemble has become even more meaningful to me.

Music education often gets pushed aside as just a supplemental learning tool. Music itself often seems inconsequential, existing in the background of our daily lives. But in times of great adversity and hardship, we find solace in the arts. Music allows us to communicate emotions we don’t have words to express, and can take us on journeys across the world.

If you choose to donate, you’ll be directly supporting the unique musical experience that EYSO offers, and I cannot overstate how much that would mean to me, and to all of us.

Donations are tax-deductible, and can be made in the form of cash or check, with any checks made out to EYSO. You can also donate online, via my fundraising page: https://eyso.networkforgood.com/projects/122689-la...

All donations must be made by Friday, March 26th!

All the best,

Lauren
