Hello! My name is Pranav Ramachandra, and I have been a member in the EYSO for 6 years. The EYSO is a unique organization with a powerful mission in mind: to empower young adults with the ability to interpret, play, and make an impact with music. Music has been a central part of my life ever since I was a kid, and EYSO helped bring music to life.

Giving music life is what the EYSO is known for: putting meaning behind the notes on the page. This year, we performed one of my favorite pieces Strauss’s Overature to Die Fledermaus, or “The Revenge of the Bat.” I was moved by the piece’s intricacy and the uplifting atmosphere created by the music, and often found myself swaying to the Waltz-y nature of the piece. I couldn’t explain the energy in the concert hall– it was full of unique excitement and a feeling that we were all in this together as one orchestra, not a conglomerate of instruments. After this performance I found myself thinking about the journey I made with the EYSO to be able to perform this difficult piece with my friends, conductors, and experiences I would not have had without the EYSO.

If you are curious, below is the link to the performance of the Die Fledermaus, where you can also check out other amazing performances!

Ultimately, EYSO represents tradition, growth, and life. We work together to hopefully make an impact on our community and help other people enjoy music the way we do. In the words of one of the orchestra members in their poem called “Turtle Dove”:

“We shout, booming over the ocean

Yelling to no one an everyone

Out breathing helps us stay afloat

For we are one body, one mind, one instrument

And we can’t let go.”

This year’s NOTES campaign is especially close to me because I will be leaving the EYSO this year, as I am off to college. If you can help give the gift of learning and experiencing music to other students who were just like me, I would be forever grateful for your contribution!

Would you, or someone you know, be willing to donate to EYSO?

This year, we are celebrating our 44th season with the theme MOVE! We have five orchestras, a brass choir, two percussion ensembles, and a chamber music program with nearly 350 students from fourth grade through college. We perform three concerts each year, and each concert explores a different connection between music and movement. You can learn more about us at EYSO.org.

Tuition covers only one-third of the total cost of each member’s participation in EYSO. Our NOTES campaign helps keep tuition reasonable and offsets program costs.

Please consider donating to EYSO to help Youth Symphony meet its goal. More importantly, it will help benefit everyone in EYSO.

Once the NOTES campaign is completed, you will receive a donation acknowledgement from EYSO for tax purposes. The campaign runs until April 5.

Thanks very much for your support!
