Hello friends!

EYSO is collecting donations as part of our annual fundraising event: the NOTES campaign. This campaign runs until April 19th. The purpose of the campaign is to help keep tuition affordable for EYSO members by encouraging EYSO families to collect donations from friends, family, co-workers, neighbors--and you! All contributions to the EYSO are tax deductible, as allowable by law.

Would you be willing to donate to EYSO?

This year, we are celebrating our 44th season with the theme MOVE! We have five orchestras, a brass choir, two percussion ensembles, and a chamber music program with nearly 350 students from fourth grade through college. I am currently a member of the Philharmonia Orchestra and plan to audition for the Youth Orchestra in May. We perform three concerts each year, and each concert explores a different connection between music and movement. You can learn more about us at EYSO.org.

Tuition covers only one-third of the total cost of each member’s participation in EYSO. Our NOTES campaign helps keep tuition reasonable and offsets program costs.

Please consider donating to EYSO to help Philharmonia meet its goal. More importantly, it will help benefit everyone in EYSO.

Once the NOTES campaign is completed, you will receive a donation acknowledgement from EYSO for tax purposes.

In the February concert, I had the honor of being concertmaster! This was my first time being concertmaster and I was very excited. Here are some clips of the pieces we played at our March concert: Swan Lake (Waltz), Swan Lake (Scene), Russian Sailors Dance, and Hoe Down. You will find me to left of the conductor when looking at the stage, in the first chair!

My violin teacher has us play a memorized piece 2 times a year and last December I played Bach Partita 2 Allemande. This is one of Bach’s Partitas which is a solo piece meaning the violin is the only instrument playing, there is no accompaniment playing along with it.It also means you have every part of the music, so you have to think about it as the “bass” and “melody” line and play as if you’re every instrument. You have to figure out how to phrase it and bring out certain melodies in the music. It doesn’t have an obvious shape, phrasing wise, so you have the creative ability to take it anywhere to want. So even though it looks like a very simple piece of music it is actually a very difficult piece of music to perform and was very challenging for me. It was also a challenge to stand an play with no one accompanying me! I am so thankful for all the opportunities I have had to learn and progress with my violin and EYSO has provided a great group of teachers, mentors and other musicians who feel the same way!

Thanks very much for your support!
