$400 towards $500

Hi there!

It’s that time of year again where I, Mina, write to you all for monetary support of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra. Now, some of you are past donors, and know what the EYSO is. If you forgot, or are new to this, please allow me to provide to you a quick recap. The EYSO is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing kids with orchestral experience throughout the suburbs of Chicago. There are five different orchestras catering to different age groups and abilities. Primo is the introductory level, Prelude is for those in late elementary school and middle-school, Sinfonia is the first full symphonic orchestra, catering to intermediate to advanced middle-schoolers and high-schoolers, Philharmonia (the one that I currently am in!), is another full symphonic orchestra for advanced middle-schoolers and high-schoolers, and Youth Symphony is for advanced high-schoolers. Every year we have a theme that allows us to broaden our artistic horizons to more than just music, molding us to be better well rounded. Last year we delved into literary themes with The Little Prince. This year our theme is MOVE. So far we’ve explored “Time, Space, and Energy” with our first concert. Now we are navigating the ins and outs of ballet for our second concert “En Pointe!”.

You might be wondering, “Why should I donate to this organization?” Well, please allow me to explain. As you might have known, I have been playing violin since I was in kindergarten. Prior to being in the EYSO, I had been in a few orchestras, but none provided me with the energy and the experience EYSO has given me. EYSO has really widened my sense of musicality and knowledge of the arts. So far, the Philharmonia orchestra has been such an amazing experience for me, and it’s one that I wish to share with all aspiring young musicians. The feeling of coming together with other musicians with the same passion as you is one of the things I really love about EYSO. The conductors are also experienced and share the same love for music as everyone in the orchestra. Your donations will keep the EYSO going so that many other girls and boys like me will get to share in these life-changing experiences like I did. Another thing your donation will go to is buying the music that we play. We’ve played some really fun repertoire this year, including the famous William Tell Overture, A Short Ride in a Fast Machine which is a really rhythmic modern piece, and Ravel’s Bolero. You know, the one Dean and Torvill famously skated to in the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics. Right now, we are currently working on the Scene and Valse from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake ballet, Russian Sailors’ Dance from Reinhold Gliere’s ballet: The Red Poppy, and Aaron Copland’s Hoedown from Rodeo. Your donations will help EYSO to be able to buy more music like this.

I hope that you now realize how important this organization is to me and why you should donate. You really don’t have to donate a large amount. Even five dollars will be a sufficient amount! Remember that each and every donation counts, no matter how large or small. Keep this in mind on whether you decide not to donate. I would love for everyone who receives this letter to donate something! It would really make a difference in providing music education in the area. Please remember that your donations are tax-deductible and that the deadline is April 5th. Overall, I hope that you consider making a donation to the EYSO. Thank you all for your support

Love,

Mina
