Hello,
My name is Mateo Estanislao, I am 18 years old and I play bass in Youth Symphony. EYSO has been a huge part of my life in the past 5 years and I could not be more grateful for it. I actually graduated from high school in May 2023 and I planned on studying music performance at UIC. An unexpected medical situation came up in August that forced me into doing a gap year instead of going to college. One of the first things I did was email my conductor, Mr. Sheppard, to ask if I could play in Youth Symphony for another year. Within a few hours, Mr. Sheppard responded and welcomed me back with open arms in my time of need.
EYSO provides a challenging orchestral education the I’ve learned to appreciate more and more over the years. This has become an essential part of my life, especially because I am not enrolled in school. I have been pushed to improve my musicianship, ensemble awareness, and leadership. Beyond the music, Mr. Sheppard has been an amazing mentor for me over the last 3 years. Whenever I have questions about music schools, auditioning, or establishing a career in music, Mr. Sheppard has been available every time.
The financial aid from EYSO is some I appreciate now more than ever. With my medical situation, my family had a significant amount of medical bills that made EYSO tuition next to impossible to pay. The generous scholarship given to me has made it possible to keep playing with an organization that is very near and dear to my heart.
Would you please consider donating to help support the EYSO?
Thank you so much,
Mateo Estanislao
