This is my first year participating in Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra. In EYSO, I play the french horn in Philharmonia orchestra. This is an orchestra for advanced high school students that works to develop ensemble skills, independence, problem-solving, and music theory. This 48th season is titled, “Gaia,” all the pieces chosen this year relate to the natural and human world. In our last concert we played the Sweeney Todd Suite and a Video Games Suite, the pieces were very challenging and super fun!
I discovered the EYSO when the Sterling Brass Quintet performed at my middle school. I was inspired to participate in an ensemble orchestra outside of school to further challenge my music skills. While being in EYSO, I’ve learned new styles of music, how to play with an ensemble, while also listening to my own song. The mission of EYSO is to create a community of young musicians, enriching their lives and the lives of their families, schools, communities, and beyond, through the study and performance of excellent music.
Each year, EYSO holds their annual NOTES campaign for donations. This campaign runs from March 25th to May 5th. The purpose of the NOTES campaign is to help keep EYSO tuition affordable to all aspiring youth musicians like myself. All contributions to EYSO are tax-deductible, as allowable by law.
