My name is Autumn. I have played the cello for 5 years, but this is my first year playing the cello with the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra (EYSO). I am so grateful to have the opportunity to play with the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra.

EYSO is a non-profit organization that helps teach students new songs, techniques, and more on their instruments. EYSO is collecting donations to help teach more students. Our goal is to raise $54,000 so that EYSO can continue to keep the tuition affordable for all musicians like myself.

This is EYSO’s 47th season. We hope this is only the beginning of EYSO! Every year, there is a new theme. This year the theme is Design. Today, EYSO teaches nearly 400 students, with the wide age range of 4th-12th grade in 5 different orchestra ensembles. The 5 ensembles are Primo, Prelude, Sinfonia, Philarmonia, and the Youth Symphony. Each ensemble is different because they have different age groups, which means the skill level of each ensemble is very different.

I love being a part of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra for many reasons, like:

• I get to learn new music that is more challenging
• I learn new techniques that help me play my instrument better
• I meet many new people and make new friends
