Hi, my name is Benjamin Gilbert. I am a junior in highschool, and a cellist in EYSO’s “Youth Symphony”. I have been playing the cello for 6 years, and this is my first year in EYSO, and my first experience in any orchestra program, aside from my schools orchestra. I heard about EYSO through a friend of mine who was in it at the time. Though I had never taken any private lessons or had any real guidance in learning more that the basics, she said I should audition anyways. So I signed up for the May auditions and started practicing away. When audition time came I was so nervous about how it would go. I made many mistakes, and thought that the whole thing was ruined because I was so inexperienced compared to the rest of the people in EYSO. Surely I wouldn’t make it into the Youth Symphony. So when I found out that I did make it in I was ecstatic. Mr. Sheppard put a lot of faith in me when he placed me in the Youth Symphony, and he could see how bad I wanted it and how much I was willing to work for it. It hasn’t been easy learning the music, or understanding some of it. But the challenge this presents to every student in EYSO is a life changing musical experience. I can’t explain how much EYSO has changed my perception of music, and how much I’ve learned from it. You are surrounded by such passionate people, who have the same goals as you. It really is a life changing experience being in EYSO, and I’m so glad that I can be a part of the family. I hope you will consider donating to our Notes 2022 campaign, so that we can keep this life changing program running. Thank you!!!!!

-Ben

The EYSO is collecting donations as part of our annual fundraising campaign: NOTES. This campaign runs from January 23 to March 27.

The purpose of the campaign is to help keep tuition affordable for EYSO members by encouraging EYSO families to collect donations from friends, family, co-workers, neighbors--and you! All contributions to the EYSO are tax deductible, as allowable by law.

Would you, or someone you know, be willing to donate to EYSO?

This year, we are celebrating our 46th season with the theme FLIPPED! We have five orchestras, a brass choir, two percussion ensembles, a flute choir and a chamber music program with nearly 300 students from fourth grade through college. The mission of EYSO is to create a community of young musicians, enriching their lives and the lives of their families, schools, communities, and beyond, through the study and performance of excellent music. By supporting the NOTES campaign, you are impacting the lives of so many, including myself. You can learn more about us at EYSO.org.

Tuition covers only one-third of the total cost of each member’s participation in EYSO. Our NOTES campaign helps keep tuition reasonable and offsets program costs.

In addition to offsetting the cost of tuition, the generosity of people like you also helps to:

  • Provide a more diverse repertoire of music.
  • Purchase necessary resources including sheet music and instruments.
  • Allows EYSO to have a broader reach by offering innovative community programs.

Please consider donating to EYSO to help Youth Symphony meet its goal. More importantly, it will help benefit all student musicians in EYSO.

Once the NOTES campaign is completed, you will receive a donation acknowledgement from EYSO for tax purpose. The campaign concludes on Sunday, March 27.

Thanks very much for your support!
