The EYSO is collecting donations as part of our annual fundraising campaign: NOTES. This campaign runs from January 23 to March 27.

The purpose of the campaign is to help keep tuition affordable for EYSO members by encouraging EYSO families to collect donations from friends, family, co-workers, neighbors--and you! All contributions to the EYSO are tax deductible, as allowable by law.

Hello All!

I have been apart of music for the past eight years of my life but never has there been an esperience like the one I have gotten from EYSO. Being involved in EYSO has given me so many opportunities and has taught me so much, especially last year. In conversations I had with my fellow musicians I came to realize that the only time they were playing in person with other musicians was on Sunday nights. Being able to still have this physical connection to music was something that not many members had access to during the school year simply because of COVID-19. I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in music during the school week but I realized that many people were not and that I was grateful that EYSO was able to give others the in person connection to music that I was able to have.

EYSO was especially exciting this year because I got to experience fall camp. This was very exciting and pretty emotional considering it was my first and last fall camp. One thing that we got to dive into even more in fall camp was the why behind the music we were playing. I think that this helped me to understand how the pieces that were chosen fit into this years theme of flipped. It also was advantageous to dive deeper into the music to gain a better understanding of how it was envisioned to be played by the composer. Learning especially about Shostakovitch's Symphony No. 5 was amazing. The brief background of the piece is that it was written in World War two Russia. After Shostakovitch's fourth symphony flopped he lived in fear that stalin would execute him. He always kept a packed back in order to not disturb his family members if he were to get taken away. Out of this fear he wrote a symphony to please Stalin. The entire symphony is russian pride in a nutshell. Regardless there is a sort of sarcasm to this work, as if the whole time Shostakovitch is saying "This is what you want but not what I mean." Being able to learn the history behind this incredibly important piece of music is incredibly important and much more worthwhile than having a symphony thrown at you to just play it.

Lastly, I hope that you feel more compelled to donate to EYSO now that you have heard the impact it has had on my music career. I would not be where I am as a musician without the people and experiences I have been exposed to through EYSO. By contributing you not only help out the people currently apart of EYSO, you help the generations on generations that will come after me to be just as successful and be able to have the amazing experiences that EYSO has to offer.

Sincerely,

Carly

Would you, or someone you know, be willing to donate to EYSO?

This year, we are celebrating our 46th season with the theme FLIPPED! We have five orchestras, a brass choir, two percussion ensembles, a flute choir and a chamber music program with nearly 300 students from fourth grade through college. The mission of EYSO is to create a community of young musicians, enriching their lives and the lives of their families, schools, communities, and beyond, through the study and performance of excellent music. By supporting the NOTES campaign, you are impacting the lives of so many, including myself. You can learn more about us at EYSO.org.

Tuition covers only one-third of the total cost of each member’s participation in EYSO. Our NOTES campaign helps keep tuition reasonable and offsets program costs.

In addition to offsetting the cost of tuition, the generosity of people like you also helps to:

  • Provide a more diverse repertoire of music.
  • Purchase necessary resources including sheet music and instruments.
  • Allows EYSO to have a broader reach by offering innovative community programs.

Please consider donating to EYSO to help EYSO meet its goal. More importantly, it will help benefit all student musicians in EYSO.

Once the NOTES campaign is completed, you will receive a donation acknowledgement from EYSO for tax purpose. The campaign concludes on Sunday, March 27.

Thanks very much for your support!
